The Vice President of Uganda Jessica Alupo has arrived in Nairobi Kenya, where she will represent President Yoweri Museveni at the State funeral of Mzee Mwai Kibaki today at Nyayo Stadium.
Upon arrival at Jomo Kenyatta Airport, the Vice President was received by Hon Faridah Karoney-Cabinet Secretary for lands Kenya, H.E Ambassador Galiwango, the High Commissioner of Uganda to Kenya, Brig Gen Mike Kisame Uganda’s Defence Attache to Kenya among others.
The Maj (Rtd) Alupo was accompanied by Hon Rose Lily Akello, Minister of State Ethics and Intergrity.
Mwai Kibaki is a former Kenyan president Mwai Kibaki, who led the country from 2002 to 2013. He on 21st April at the age 90.
As leader, Kibaki, one of the country’s richest men, ushered in economic reforms and a new constitution.
In 2002, the British-educated economist won a landslide election, upsetting a candidate handpicked by outgoing president Daniel arap Moi. Kibaki had previously served as Moi’s vice president.
Kibaki’s fiscal prudence and infrastructure projects breathed life back into Kenya’s sluggish economy, and he is also credited with ending many restrictions on freedom of expression.
