The Ministry of Internal Affairs has revealed that the passport department is stuck with over 10,000 ready to pick passports.
The Ministry’s spokesperson Simon Peter Mundeyi made the revelation during Police’s weekly press briefing on Monday. He expressed concern towards those Ugandans who suffered looking for money to have their passports processed but at the end of the day, they failed to pick them up.
“We have over 10,000 passports ready to be picked in Kyambogo but the owners are nowhere to be seen. I want to ask Ugandans who suffered looking for money for passport, applied, scheduled appointments came and fulfilled everything to actually come and pick their passports, so that we can have space,” Mundeyi said.
“We have nowhere to keep these passports because they are so many, so everyone who is there and you very well know you applied and fulfilled everything to get a passport, please pass by at our stores in Kyambogo and check for your passports, we have so many of them and we keep on adding others every day so they are becoming a great challenge to us, once again I call Ugandans to come for your passports, we don’t have space.”
Meanwhile, Mundeyi also noted that the long queues which have always been seen at the headquarters of the ministry are over because of the increase in workforce and urged Ugandans to follow online procedures to avoid being conned by the fraudsters.
“The long lines you have been seeing at passport office are no more, we have increased on work stations to handle very many applicants, we have also increased on the number of staff working on the passport. So, as I talk now we are no longer experiencing long lines at the passport office which is a very good thing.”
