Members of parliament sitting on the Public Service and local government have quizzed the Minister of public service Wilson Muruli Mukasa on the discrimination in salary enhancement for public servants.
The committee members led by the kumi district Woman Member of Parliament, Christine Apolot while meeting with minister on Wednesday said they are not happy with the ministry of public service policy of giving some civil servants huge salary especially in top positions and neglect the low earning servants in government.
MPs rejected government’s strategic policy of increasing salary for few workers as told by the Minister of public service.
Samia-Bugwe Central MP Denis Nyangweso said that lack of proper policy on salary enhancement is causing low morale among government workers and some are not up to their task for better service delivery to tax payers.
Hoima City East Member of Parliament Dr.Patrick Isingoma said that the salary gap between civil servants is frustrating service delivery and causing absenteeism at work including promoting corruption.
However, Mr Mukasa said that the salary enhancement policy being used by his ministry was adopted by the cabinet.
He stated that the general pay increase to public servants will be considered upon the economic recovery, adding that they started with scientists like health doctors.
