The lead petitioner against the consecration of the Bishop elect of the Diocese of Kigezi, Pierre Mbabazi has withdrawn his petition and asked for forgiveness from Christians.
Mbabazi,among others, had petitioned to the Archbishop of the church of Uganda Stephen Kaziimba Mugalu against the election of Gad Akanjuna as the new Bishop of the Diocese of Kigezi.
Mbabazi who also doubles as the deputy speaker for Rubanda district told journalists in Kabale town that he had decided to withdraw the petition for the good of the church and asked for forgiveness from Christians.
A section of Christians from Greater Kabale had petitioned Archbishop of Uganda Stephen Kaziimba Mugalu implicating what they termed as irregularities during his election.
Rev. Canon Akanjuna who was on February 9th, 2022 elected the 6th Bishop of the Diocese of Kigezi by the House of Bishops of Church of Uganda will be enthroned and consecrated on May 29th, 2022 by the Archbishop of the Church of Uganda His Grace the Most Reverend Dr. Kaziimba Mugalu.
Canon Johnson Barintuma Munono the head of the laity in the diocese of Kigezi and chairperson organizing committee said that the arrangments are going on well to have a successful ceremony for the consecration of the new Bishop.
Canon Ivan Mbabazi Batuma who is the Head of Publicity for the forthcoming ceremony revealed that the decision to withdraw the petition is highly welcome and a sign that the christians are united and set for development.
