Police in Kabale  is searching for the body of an 18 year old identified as Promise Ahumuza who allegedly drowned when the local canoe she was traveling in together with the father and sister capsized.

The incident happened on Monday morning at Lake Bunyonyi when Christopher Kaganga with his two daughters, residents of Kashenyi in Kamuganguzi sub county Kabale district, were traveling from Butenga area in Kitumba sub county to collect sweet potatoes.

It’s alleged that the canoe got filled with water as a result of strong winds, the survivors continued holding the canoe until they were rescued but the deceased got tired after she tried to swim in vain.

According to the Kigezi regional police spokesperson Elly Maate, the deceased was a student of Buhumba foundation college.

Maate adds that Police and other locals have tried to search for her body and retrieve it in vain. He advised people to always use water safety precaution measures of putting on life jackets whenever they are on water to avoid such incidents.
