The UPDF Commander Land Forces also First Son of Uganda Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba has deactivated his Twitter account, Watchdog Uganda has learnt.
On Monday evening, the General’s Twitter account which has more than 500,000 followers went down, something that sparked off a jubilant mood among a section of his critics who thought that Twitter had suspended his account. And to his supporters, it was the other way round; they became sad and heartbroken.
The development came at a time when Gen Muhoozi is about to celebrate his 48th birthday. He was of late using the social media platform to give updates of his highly anticipated birthday party that will be happening on 24th April, 2022.
However, according to ChimpReports news website, Gen Muhoozi deactivated the account by himself citing suspected sabotage.
“Until recently the account was gaining about 2,000 followers per week, but then this rate started dropping. Gen Muhoozi believes someone is behind this and he decided to take the account down for now,” a source in General Muhoozi’s inner circle told the local news website.
According to Mathias Ssemanda, a Diplomacy and International Relations researcher at Pennsylvania State University and former Social Media Manager at Africell Uganda, for any suspended account on Twitter, it retains the flag “Account Suspended” whereas where the user deactivates their own accounts , the flag “this account doesn’t exist” is retained.
The latter is displayed on Gen Muhoozi’s account.
