Police have said they have prepared summons for Nathan LO’kori, the father of the deceased former Speaker of Parliament Jacob Oulanyah, National Unity Platform (NUP) leader Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine and the National Resistance Movement (NRM) vice chairman for central Uganda, Godfrey Kiwanda Ssubi, for interrogation over alleged claims that the late Oulanyah was poisoned.
Other people to be summed include; Dokolo South MP Felix Okot Ogong, Kilak South MP Gilbert Olanya and Northern Uganda based musician Bosmic Otim Okori.
Addressing journalists on Monday, Police Spokesperson Fred Enanga said, “We are therefore summoning all those persons with other causes of death including poisoning for further interview and statement recording. These will include Hon. Godfrey Kiwanda Ssubi, Hon. Chris Baryomunsi, Hon. Gilbert Olanya, Hon. Santa Okot, Hon Kyagulanyi Ssentamu Robert, mzee Nathan Okori and Bosmic Otim, a file of offensive communication is being prepared at CID headquarters in Kibuli, Kampala.”
He added “From the medical records we have obtained, there was no presence of poison in his (Oulanyah’s) blood system. We want them to provide us with a chain of evidence regarding the poisoning as they allege. The file of offensive communication is ongoing at CID headquarters in Kibuli.”
Enanga further noted that some of the summoned people will have to give the police evidence to prove their poison claims.
“In any allegation of death by poison, identification of poisonous samples in the body is crucial. According to the medical report, there was no trace of any poisonous samples in the body. Therefore, any other cause of death beyond the medical reports will be treated as dangerous speculation that must be avoided.”
It must be recalled that after the death of Speaker Oulanyah, President Yoweri Museveni asked police to go after anyone who will make allegations that Oulanyah’s death was by poisoning.
“The police will come and ask you to give them some information because Oulanyah did not die in a private home. Police are going to come and ask you to tell us because you seem to have information. We cannot go on with this indiscipline. It’s not constructive at all, especially from some people who are educated and claim to be leaders. We are going to go for them, ”Museveni warned.
However, during the burial of his son last week on Friday, Mr L’Okori claimed that his son died of poison.
“I am not mourning in vain. I want to state clearly that Jacob was poisoned. He told me that he was operated on as doctors attempted to deal with poison. It affected his health so badly and by the time he was flown out he was not in a position to recover.”
