The Deputy Presidential Press Secretary Faruk Kirunda has lashed out at National Unity Platform (NUP) leader Robert Kyagulanyi for telling lies about the security situation in Karamoja Sub region.
Early this week, Mr Kyagulanyi popularly known as Bobi Wine attended the Geneva Summit 2022 for Human Rights and Democracy in Switzerland and while addressing fellow delegates, the former presidential candidate claimed that the UPDF land forces under the command of First Son Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba was deployed in Karamoja and its currently carrying out extra judicial killings, houses are being burnt down and women are being raped all because they overwhelmingly voted for his NUP party in the last general elections.
“It’s important for me to highlight now that as we speak now, the oil rich region of Karamoja is facing bombardment, hundreds of extra judicial killings are ongoing, houses are being burnt and women are being raped. All that is being done because the region supported us overwhelmingly and its facing the wrath of the military which is commanded by the son of Gen Museveni,” Mr Bobi Wine said during the summit.
However, according to Mr Kirunda, all what Bobi Wine said was nothing but a catalogue of lies. He said the problem in Karamoja existed before NUP.
” Bobi Wine is telling complete lies. Security agencies in Karamoja are fighting armed rustlers who have terrorised the region, killing innocent people and stealing their animals. This prob existed before NUP,” President Yoweri Museveni’s Deputy Spokesperson tweeted on Sunday.
With support of statistics, Mr Kirunda also clarified that in last year’s general Elections, out of the 26 MP slots in Karamoja, NRM won 25. The other went to an NRM-leaning independent.
“NUP only won a youth council seat in one district out of nine. Politics of lies can’t stand the wave of facts.”
