The UPDF Commander of Land Forces Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba has warned the Karamojong warriors that the national army is ready to wipe them out unless they surrender.
On Tuesday, UPDF revealed that since the launch of Operation Usalama Kwa Wote in July, 2021, a total of 309 Karamojong warriors have been killed, 184 guns recovered, 1792 warriors arrested and 360 prosecuted.
The army Spokesperson Brig Gen Felix Kulayigye also noted that they have recovered 17,186 livestock from the warriors in the Karamoja sub-region.
“The UPDF, working with other sister security agencies, the local leaders and all peace loving wananchi in Karamoja will continue working together to completely pacify Karamoja and end all the criminality in the sub region and the neighboring communities,” Gen Kulayigye said.
Reacting over the number of the warriors killed during the operation, Gen Muhoozi said the army has actually more cattle thieves since last year and they will continue putting them out of action if they don’t stop the criminality.
“We have killed a lot more cattle thieves since last year. And we shall continue eliminating them until they completely lose their appetite for this industry. Godbless UPDF! Godbless Uganda,” he tweeted on Wednesday.
Last week, on Tuesday, security forces in a joint search operation recovered at bodies of three geologists and two soldiers ambushed and killed by suspected armed cattle rustlers in Moroto District. Sources allude that they could have been killed by Turkana fighters who had entered Uganda for pastures.
