Local government councils in the Acholi and Lango sub-region will hold a joint meeting in honour of the late Speaker of Parliament Jacob Oulanyah L’Okori.
Michael Lakony, the Amuru LCV Chairperson says that the extraordinary council meeting that will be held in Omoro District is intended to celebrate Oulanyah who did not only serve the Northern Region, but also the entire country.
Lakony, says that they have already notified the National Organizing Committee about the meeting. He adds that the date for the joint full council meeting shall be fixed immediately after the return of Oulanyah’s body from USA.
Lakony made the revelation while interacting with journalists on Tuesday 29th March 2022.
According to Lakony, one of the motions to be raised in the council meeting is to have all the districts and cities in Northern Uganda name a road after Oulanyah.
Douglas Peter Okello Okao, the Omoro LCV Chairperson says they found it very important to hold the joint full council meeting because Oulanyah struggled for the restoration of peace in Northern Uganda during the Lord’s Resistance Army-LRA insurgency. He adds that Oulanyah was also the NRM Central Executive Committee Chairman for Northern Uganda and the Patron of Uganda District Council Speakers Association.
Anthony Akol, the Chairman of Acholi Parliamentary Group says the National Organizing Committee has given the local leaders of Acholi and Lango a go-ahead to hold the joint council meeting.
