The Police spokesperson Fred Enanga has revealed that immediately after the burial of the fallen Speaker Emeritus of the 11th Parliament Rt Hon Jacob L’Okori Oulanyah, the probe on those who speculated the cause of his death will commence.
Addressing journalists during the Police press briefing on Monday at Police Headquarters Naguru, Enanga noted that ever since they received the order from the President, Police have been collecting shreds of evidence from social media which they will use in the investigation.
“As the joint security Agencies we continue to mourn with all other Ugandans the death of Rt Hon Jacob Oulanyah and we continue to await the arrival of the body. Good enough the president’s office is giving updates on when his body will return home and other burial arrangements. On the side of the mourners I want to assure that security has been beefed up till the burial,” he said
He added; “We have also followed the instructions of the President and a case file at CID headquarters has been opened where all persons who were speculating about the cause of death to the Rt Hon Jacob Oulanyah will give us a statement, however, this will come after the burial. What we are doing right now is transcribing the footage, the video, we are checking all digital platforms and getting evidence from whoever was coming up with whatever speculation over the cause of the death of Rt Hon.”
Enanga wondered why it’s now becoming a common practice in Uganda that whenever a person of higher position in Uganda dies, it’s not a natural cause, that there has to be something.
“This should stop because the medical experts are there who indicate the cause of death so should people come up with something opposite.”
Following the Rt Hon Oulanyah’s death on 20th March 2022, in Seattle US, the following day his father Mr Nathan L’Okori, said that his son was poisoned.
“I know very well that he was poisoned, and whatever somebody will say tomorrow should not distort the information we now have…. I don’t want somebody to bring their politics here,” Daily Monitor quoted Mr L’Okori.
Mr L’Okori further disclosed that Oulanyah revealed the cause of his illness, which suddenly began manifesting publicly after he became a Speaker last May before he travelled for specialized medical care abroad.
“He (Oulanyah) called and promised me certain things and what he told me I know very well,” he added.
Also, the legislators from the Acholi demanded the government to give answers as to why whenever an Acholi is promoted to one of the biggest positions in the country dies mysteriously.
Oulanyah’s death spiked a lot of debate in the public domain which forced President Yoweri Museveni to call for the probing of whoever claims that Oulanyah died of poison.
On Friday while addressing legislators at the Kololo ceremonial grounds after the elections of the new Speaker and Deputy Speaker, President Museveni said police would be deployed to investigate the claims.
“I would like to warn some people who are in the habit of taking advantage of problems to make cheap politics. And actually, we’re going to go for them because I have heard some people saying some people killed Oulanyah. The police will come and ask you to give them some information because Oulanyah did not die in a private home. He died in a highly reputable hospital and before that he was in another big hospital in Dubai… before that, he was in our hospitals here, including the cancer Institute. Everything is there. I did not know that Oulanyah was sick until he went to Dubai. He went with our doctors. That’s when I checked and I knew what the problems were,” Mr Museveni said.
“Police are going to come and ask you to tell us because you seem to have information. We cannot go on with this indiscipline. It’s not constructive at all, especially from some people who are educated and claim to be leaders. We are going to go for them,” he echoed.
