The Minister of State for Finance (General Duties), Henry Musasizi Ariganyira has urged government leaders to publicize achievements of the NRM party for Ugandans to know.
Hon Musasizi who was officiating the Annual General Meeting of Rukiga SACCO in Rukiga district on Saturday revealed that the NRM party recorded outstanding achievements, but the role of disseminating this information to Ugandans has failed.
“The role of disseminating achievements of the NRM has failed, yet the party has done a lot in Uganda. This has given space to only negativity,” the Minister said.
According to Musasizi, in the last two years, government has capitalized Microfinance Support Center limited (MSC) to a total tune of Shs 150 billion to enhance the institution’s capacity in affordable wholesale credit and business development services to Ugandans with special emphasis on poor households, micro, small and medium enterprises.
Musasizi also revealed that government recently launched the Small Business Recovery Fund, administered by the Bank of Uganda and implemented in partnership with Commercial banks, Microfinance Deposit Taking Institutions and Credit Institutions to provide loans to affected businesses and SACCOs to help them recover from COVID-19. This initiative that will raise Shs 200 Billion will enable borrowers to access affordable credit at an interest not exceeding 10 percent per annum. Musasizi said all these interventions have not been properly disseminated to the people as required.
The Minister, henceforth, implored Resident District Commissioners to spearhead the role of disseminating information about government programs and achievements recorded so that the populace can appreciate the efforts of the leaders they elected.
“The RDC should be at the forefront of informing people of achievements of the party, including government programs. All NRM leaders at all levels should know that they carry the same obligation wherever they are. Some say unnecessary information leaving very developmental news that Ugandans need most.” Minister Musasizi added.
On Parish Model:
Minister Musasizi also revealed that the government is now focusing on getting all Ugandans out of poverty through the Parish Development Model.
“We want these 39% of the people who are still working for the stomach to get out and also work for the pockets. They must get out. Everybody must work for the benefit of his family,” Musasizi said.
In February 2022, Government of Uganda launched the Parish Development Model (PDM) in Kibuku district to lift the 39% of Uganda’s population from the subsistence to money economy.
Areas of focus include Agriculture, livestock, poultry and fish farming among others. Government intends to inject Uganda shillings 100 million per Parish to implement the model which will focus on Production, Storage, Processing and Marketing. It will also include infrastructure and economic services, financial inclusion, Social Services, Mindset change and Parish Based Management Information System, Governance and Administration.
