The National Resistance Movement (NRM)’s Central Executive Committee has endorsed Thomas Tayebwa as the party flag bearer for the position of Deputy Speaker of Parliament.
Tayebwa, the Ruhinda North legislator, has been serving as Government Chief Whip.
This has been confirmed by the Party’s Director In Charge of Communications, Emmanuel Dombo.
“Hon Thomas Tayebwa has been unanimously approved by the Party Caucus for the position of Deputy Speaker. Rt.Hon Anitta Among and Hon Thomas Tayebwa will be the NRM flagbearer for the position of Speaker and Deputy Speaker respectively. Congs to the NRM team,” Dombo tweeted on Thursday.
Yesterday, CEC also endorsed Rt Hon Anita Among as NRM flag bearer for the Speakership position. She had been serving as Deputy Speaker.
The position of Speaker of Parliament fell vacant following the death of Rt Hon Jacob L’okori Oulanyah who passed away last Sunday in Seattle, USA where he had gone to receive specialised treatment.
The election of the new Speaker and Deputy Speaker will be happening tomorrow Friday at Kololo Independence grounds.
Among will be facing off with opposition candidate Asuman Basalirwa for the Speakership position.
