Police in Busoga North is hunting for Martin Mugulusi, a resident of Busiri zone, in Namwendwa town council, in Kamuli district, over the killing of his 35-year-old lover, Wambuzi Tibita on Tuesday night.
It is reported that Tibita was bathing outside her rented room, when Mugulusi got hold of a knife, stabbed her in the stomach, before fleeing.
The deceased’s body was taken to Kamuli general hospital mortuary, awaiting postmortem.
A resident within the area who spoke on condition of anonymity says that his colleagues attempted to corner Mugulusi, whom they had noticed stabbing his girlfriend, but he escaped.
“The incident happened at about 10:00 pm when most of us were still awake and we clearly saw him stab his girlfriend, but he jumped on a waiting motorcycle and sped off to an unknown destination,” he said.
Jennifer Maalusi, a resident in the area says that the couple was facing relationship challenges, with Mugulusi accusing Tibita of being unfaithful.
“I am their neighbor and both of them are my close friends, but about four days ago, Mugulusi claimed that Tibita was cheating on him with another man and he resolved to separate with her, so we were shocked when he returned to kill her,” she sobbed.
The Busoga North police spokesperson, Michael Kasadha confirmed the incident and advised couples to always opt for amicable ways of problem-solving, rather than resorting to violence tendencies, which is guaranteed to earn them long jail sentences.
