Retired Church of Uganda Archbishop, Henry Luke Orombi has eulogized the fallen Speaker of the 11th Parliament Rt Hon Jacob L’Okori Oulanyah, saying that he has been a practical Christian who walked the talk.
In an interview with KFM, the former Archbishop noted that Uganda has lost an icon who was a promising unifier of the presumed divided country.
“It’s tragic to all of us in Uganda because we are losing young and promising able-minded leaders. Last year in August we lost Maj Gen Lokech and just after a short time we have lost another prominent person in the name of a Speaker of Parliament. It’s so heart breaking to the nation. He was not only a Speaker but he was a true force in the church, He was the true force in mobilizing the funds to pay the debt for the church house,” Bishop Orombi said.
He noted that the late Speaker’s life was in the hands of God and if he died it’s God who allowed it because He is the author of life.
“We know the author of life is God. Us Christian we believe in after life and our faith in Jesus does not allow us to point fingers at one another because nothing can happen to anybody until God says it’s your time. Therefore, I call upon Ugandans as we mourn, let’s not accuse anybody because we as believers know that unless it’s God’s decision, nobody to finish one’s life.”
Bishop Orombi further urged Ugandans to grief the loss of their Speaker in honour because he served his country wholeheartedly in different capacities.
“Oulanyah was a practical Christian, he spoke the truth. Jesus said the truth will set you free. As for corruption. It’s our system that we have today and if one is going to be anti-corrupt, you stand up in light and that was Oulanyah. As for the people of North, we have lost a man who was a nationalistic, a brother, son and relative.”
On whether someone from Northern Uganda should replace Oulanyah as Speaker, Archbishop Orombi said, “I don’t think it was the North who voted for him to be Speaker, it was Parliament, therefore, anybody capable of holding the mantle in that position should be the one to be voted for to continue with the legacy of the late Speaker. If the Parliament is to continue, let the right person sit where Jacob was.”
Meanwhile, Oulanyah, passed away in Seattle, USA, on Sunday, March 20, 2022.
