The leader of the National Unity Platform (NUP) Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine has called for sanctions against the NRM government regime.
On Thursday, Bobi Wine who was invited by the Leader of Opposition in Parliament Mathias Mpuuga at his office, informed journalists after their meeting with a delegation from the US Department of state, led by Assistant Secretary for Democracy, Human Rights and Labor Lisa Peterson and US Ambassador to Uganda Natalie Brown that they called for action from international community against the regime for violation and abuse of human rights.
The former presidential candidate said that with the current disrespect of human rights, the NRM regime should be isolated until sanity is restored in the country.
On the issue of dialoguing with the government, Bobi Wine affirmed that they won’t dialogue with the current regime which has proven to be wild and not listening to the cries of the people.
He noted that however much NUP would wish to dialogue with the current regime, the circumstances and intolerance from the regime can’t permit them into the act.
“I have joined our Parliamentary front led by Rt. Hon. Matthias Mpuuga to interact with Assistant Secretary for Democracy, Human Rights & Labor in the U. S. State Department Ms. Lisa Peterson and U. S. Ambassador Her Excellency Natalie Brown to continue discussions about Uganda’s human rights situation. We continue to implore the United States and other development partners to put the observance of human rights as a pre-condition for granting giving aid to the Ugandan government,” Bobi Wine stated.
Meanwhile, Bobi Wine also reaffirmed that Mityana Municipality MP Francis Zaake is still their Commissioner of parliament.
He said that the process through which parliament used to censure Zaake was irregular and illegal. He said as NUP, they maintain Zaake as their commissioner.
This also comes at the time when Zaake has filed a case in the constitutional court challenging his censure as Parliamentary commissioner.
