The parliamentary committee on Trade has summoned four officials of the Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) for undervaluing of the percentage share government gets from the Pre- Export Verification of Conformity to Standards Programm (PVoC) .
The committee chaired by Mbarara City South legislator Mwine Mpaka while interfacing with the officials of the UNBS led by the Bureau’s Executive Director David Livingstone Ebil noted that some individuals in the ministry of trade and UNBS agreed to the agreement for government to be paid 40 US dollars and the pre-shipment company get 100 dollars which the committee members are protesting.
Prior, Mwine and his Jinja North Division counterpart David Aga Isabirye had tasked the UNBS executive Director to explain the circumstance under which they accepted only 40 US dollars in this agreement.
However, Ebil told the committee members that there was no documentation to come up with this figure.
This prompted the committee to summon the individuals who participated in negotiating this deal which members think that there could have been foul play.
The summoned individuals include the former UNBS executive director Ben Manyindo,Head of procurement ,chairperson of the valuation committee and Minister of Trade.
