The Minister for the Presidency Milly Babirye Babalanda will camp in the areas of terror infiltrated Greater Masaka to assess the situation and tip security on how to stamp out the impasse.
The revelation was made by the minister herself while during an interview with a local radio station in Masaka this morning. She was responding to a caller’s question regarding the interventions being put in place to ensure the return of peace in the area.
As many as 23 people have been hacked to death by machete-wielding assailants in just one month. Last night, a joint security team of police and army saved a 68 year old resident in Masaka from being hacked by the assailants.
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, in his condolence speech at the burial of fallen Deputy Inspector General of Police(D/IGP) Paul Lokech, said the assailants are linked to a terror group – the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) based in the Democratic Republic of Congo(DRC).
As the crackdown on the bad guys in the region intensifies, we have learned that Babalanda will head to Masaka next week from Thursday, 02 to Friday, 03 September to have a first-hand view of the crisis and provide important tips to the security on how to combat the situation.
Residential District/ City Commissioners ( RDCs/RCCs), District Internal Security Officers(DISOs), and other district police chiefs are expected to attend the security discourse with the Minister.
Commenting on the crisis in general, the minister pointed at wrong elements fighting to portray the government as incompetent with the intention to cause panic among the public.
She also said the assailants’ target is to divert the NRM government from implementing the manifesto, a move she warned is bound to miserably backfire.
” These terror groups want to frustrate our efforts in implementing the NRM manifesto. They are desperately fighting to divert us but I can assure Ugandans that the government can wipe them out without any trouble,” She said.
Babalanda however rallied the media to play an active role in updating the public on the fight against the wrong elements other than concentrating on circulating propaganda-based information that is intended to create panic.
