The Rukiga district security committee has resolved to increase border patrols by the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) and Uganda police following last week’s scenario where armed Rwandan soldiers entered Uganda on the pretext of chasing waragi smugglers.
The scenario happened at Kazaaza and Omukayaga cells, all in Kamwezi Sub County which borders Rwanda.
According to Nuwagaba Tedison the Kamwezi Sub-county chairman, the soldiers, a captain and his 2 escorts entered Uganda on Tuesday 25th May 2021 under the cover of chasing waragi smugglers though the situation was easily handled.
“Even on 31st May 2021 we caught thieves who had stolen 9 goats and 1 cow from Rwanda, we gave them back to their owners, ”Mr Nuwagaba added.
The committee also decided that all illegal entrants from Rwanda should be sent back through immigration office since there are no quarantine centers in Rukiga district during this period of COVID-19 pandemic.
Furthermore on the issue of covid-19, only 200 people with face masks will be allowed to attend functions churches and bars to remain closed as curfew is reinforced.
All these resolutions were made by the district security committee in a meeting that was held at the district headquarters on Wednesday 2nd June 2021.
The committee which is headed by the Resident District Commissioner Prikeria Muhindo also consists of the DISO Mugabi Nickolas, District Police Commander, Chief Administrative Officer and the OC CID.
