Gen Katumba Wamala, the outgoing Works and Transport Minister who survived an assassination attempt on Tuesday morning has comforted his children by telling that that he will be fine.
In a circulating video on social media, Gen Katumba who is currently being admitted at Medipal Hospital in Kampala, tells his children that God has given him a second chance to live and that he has no bad injuries so there’s no need to be scared.
“All my children I will be fine, I will survive, we have lost Brenda but that was God’s plan. She did nothing to this world but the bad guys have taken her life. God has given me a second chance. Don’t worry, I dont have bad injuries, only the arms , I will be fine,” the former Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) says.
“I’m with the doctors and they are doing everything possible. I love you guys, please pray for mummy, she is in a terrible state. Those who can come, you can come,” he added.
Gen Katumba was shot at along Kisota road in Kisaasi. The incident happened at around 9am.
The assailants, four in number were riding on two black motorcycles before spraying bullets to Gen Katumba’s car who was moving with his daughter Brenda Nantongo Wamala and their driver Haruna Kayondo.
The former Police Chief survived with bullets in his left arm and chest.
Unfortunately, the daughter and the driver have since been confirmed dead whereas Gen. Katumba was rushed to Medipal hospital in Kampala for treatment. The doctors managed to remove four bullets from his body and he is currently in a stable condition.
Gen Katumba and his daughter were reportedly heading for the burial ceremony of their close relative in Najjanankumbi along Entebbe road.
In a video that made rounds on social media, after the shooting, Gen Katumba whose clothes were sustained in blood ,was seen crying in pain asking to be taken to a medical facility to receive treatment.
“Please take me to the hospital,” the senior army officer cries out as he is being helped by one of his bodyguards.
He was immediately rushed to Malcom health care in Bukoto on a boda boda for first aid before being taken to Medipal Hospital along John Babiha Avenue in Kampala.
