Rt.Rev. Eng George Bagamuhunda, the Bishop of Kigezi Diocese has announced that he is taking an early retirement.
He says that after requesting the Archbishop of the Church of Uganda to allow him to retire early, His Grace Steven Kazimba Mugalu allowed him to serve until June 2022.
Bishop Bagamuhunda made the Announcement over the weekend during the Diocesan council meeting that was held at the synod hall, at St. Peters Rugarama. He said that he feels like he no longer has the strength to keep serving efficiently in the current capacity and would love to step down.
He noted that the Archbishop has already notified the Diocesan Chancellor about the development.
“I and my family were very appreciative to the Christians in the diocese for their endless support, encouragement and warm fellowship given to us during our tenure,” Said Bishop Bagamuhunda.
Canon Johnson Baryantuma Munono,the diocese of Kigezi head of laity appreciated the good work that bishop Bagamuhunda has done in the last few years he has been the bishop citing the building of hostel at Rugarama school of nursing, starting a pension scheme for retired clergy , stating children churches in the diocese , starting the diocesan radio revival radio among others.
He was enthroned and installed as the 5th bishop of the Diocese of Kigezi on January 19th 2014 at St Peter’s cathedral Rugarama replacing Bishop George Katwesigye.
