President Yoweri Museveni has directed presidential hopeful Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine and other political aspirants from all registered political parties to test for covid-19.
This has been revealed by the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Secretary General Justine Kasule Lumumba.
The directive targets all political aspirants and other leaders in all political parties and organizations in the country.
“Every registered political party and all the people that have come out to contest for office under that party; everybody that will be going out to interact with voters in this campaign period, will have to get tested,” Lumumba told Salt TV in an interview on Saturday.
According to Lumumba, the Ministry of Health will today Saturday send out letters to all political parties asking them to prepare for the testing exercise.
The testing Lumumba says will be conducted every two weeks on these individual. They will also be sensitised on how to safely go about their political activities to avoid spreading the deadly virus.
“Remember that this disease doesn’t select its victims based on their political affiliation.”
The development follows the recent incident where two NRM secretariat officials tested positive for covid-19.
“This morning, two of our key staff at the National Resistance Movement – NRM Party Secretariat tested positive for COVID-19 and have been admitted to the Hospital for proper care,” Lumumba said in a statement last Wednesday.
“We are working with the technical people and further guidance will be given in due course.I urge everyone to stay alert, healthy and safe.”
