Kiryandongo district Woman Member of Parliament Helen Kahunde has tested positive for Covid-19, Watchdog Uganda has learnt.
The legislator is currently admitted at Mulago Referral Hospital.
“Hon Kahunde felt unwell before volunteering to take a test at Mulago where she is currently being admitted, “a close associate told ChimpReports news website on Wednesday.
Kahunde is said to have contracted the virus after interacting closely with a family member who recently returned from abroad at one of the quarantine centres.
“There is a major scare. Many of those who interacted with her have had to go for tests, and this figure might even be high by Thursday (tomorrow) when the results of the majority who have gone for tests are released.”
Now following the development, the Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga has directed all MPs and staff of Parliament to undergo mandatory testing for Covid-19.
The Speaker says the exercise is to be conducted by the Ministry of Health- starting on Thursday, 16 July 2020.
