At least 11 Ugandans who recently returned from Afghanistan are among the 19 new covid-19 cases. Now the total number of confirmed covid-19 cases in Uganda stand at 889.
Last week, a total of 91 Ugandans who had been stranded in Afghanistan due to Covid-19 lockdown were repatriated home by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. They arrived at Entebbe International Airport on Saturday at 6pm.
According to the Ministry of Health, all confirmed cases are Ugandans and are among the 871 samples of alerts and contacts.
“11 of the confirmed cases are passengers who have just returned from Afghanistan. All were under quarantine at the time of test,” Health Ministry Director General Health Services, Dr Henry G. Mwebesa said in a statement on Tuesday.
“Seven of the confirmed cases are from Amuru district and one from Kyotera district. All were contacts to previously confirmed cases.”
Meanwhile, a total of 25 foreign truck drivers- (15 Kenyans, seven Tanzanians , two Egyptians and one Burundian) tested positive for covid-19 and were handed over to their respective countries of origin.
Uganda has so far registered 819 covid-19 recoveries with no recorded death.
