David Bahati, the state minister for planning in the Ministry of finance on Sunday assured Ugandans that President Yoweri Museveni will sort the issue of the closed Uganda-Rwanda border.
Bahati made a stopover at the closed Katuna border post while traversing Ndorwa West constituency which he represents in Parliament.
Bahati said President Museveni would handle the border issues so that business at the border resumes like before.
“We trust the President and we know he shall sort the issue by himself,” the Minister said.
Bahati thanked the businessmen for being patient with the closed border, noting that government was concerned about their situation, bearing in mind that their businesses are at stand still.
Rwanda –Uganda borders have been closed since late February this year and there are little signs of reopening.
Business along the borders has been crippled since then. The movement of people and goods along the borders has also greatly declined.
A lot of money has been lost in the course. In June this year, it was reported that Kampala had lost more than $664 million worth of exports to Rwanda while Kigali had lost $104 million during the three months the Gatuna border had been closed.
