National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) has announced that on Tuesday November 5, 2019, it will divert traffic along Namugongo and Nalya-Namugongo roads in an attempt to construct the Katosi-Kampala Drinking Water Transmission.
“National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC), on behalf of The Government of the Republic of Uganda (GoU), is currently constructing The Katosi-Kampala Drinking Water Transmission Mains to supply drinking water to the increasing population of the Greater Kampala Metropolitan Area,” says NWSC in a statement issued on Monday.
“NWSC has accordingly contracted Sogea Satom to implement the project which involves excavation and laying of water pipes across Namugongo Road at Kyaliwajjala Junction.”
The construction works shall run up to Thursday November 7, 2019.
In the three days, NWSC says some sections of Kireka- Namugongo Road and Naalya-Namugongo Road shall be closed to traffic which shall be diverted to alternative routes.
“The excavation works shall be done in three phases to allow proper traffic management and minimize traffic disruptions.”
See guidelines:
-Normal time of work shall be at night and it will take 3 nights to install the pipes and fill the road to make it passable. Permanent reinstatement of the road pavement shall be completed within nine (9) working days after the works.
-During the actual excavation works across the road, traffic from Kireka to Namugongo and vice versa shall be diverted to Kisosonkole Road which feeds into Yakobo Road.
-Traffic from Kireka to Naalya and vice versa shall be diverted to Vienna Ring, above Vienna College and Lukade Road, which is below Vienna College.
-Traffic from Naalya to Kiira and vice versa shall be diverted to Kimbejja Road.
