Musician turned Politician Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine has described the late Sweet Pepsi as a harmless and peaceful Ugandan who was brutalized by the people who were supposed to protect him.
Sweet Pepsi real name Hannington Ssewankambo was last year brutalized by the army during the ‘Free Bobi Wine’ protest.
He died on Wednesday.
BBC correspondent Allan Atulinda who gave Sweet Pepsi first aid during the fracas posted on social media last evening, “Allow me share sad news of my friend Sweet Pepsi. The sister tells me that he has gone to be with the Lord.”
Adding “He has died today at 8am. He has been ill & bedridden. May God rest you sir in peace.”
In his eulogy on Thursday, Bobi Wine revealed that it was very painful that Sweet Pepsi died without seeing any of those who brutalised him being brought to justice.

Deeply saddened by the untimely death of comrade and artiste Ssewankambo Hannington, commonly known as Sweet Pepsi. Last year, Sweet Pepsi was grossly brutalised by the military. For joining other Ugandans to express solidarity with me and our cause, this harmless and peaceful citizen was bartered by those who were supposed to protect him. The cold, brutal men left him bleeding profusely and went for other targets. It is very painful that he has died without seeing any of those who violated him being brought to justice.
Rest in peace comrade. May your memory guide those who remain to work even harder and restore sanity to our nation.
