The Makerere University Guild president Julius Kateregga has said some elements of the institution have been feeding President Yoweri Museveni on falsehoods regarding the ongoing protest against the 15 per cent tuition increment.
“Earlier today, I held a phone conversation with President Museveni to brief him on the status quo at the Hill and on the demands of the governed. He had been fed on falsehoods by some elements of University Management,” Kateregga posted on his Facebook page on Tuesday.
The Guild president also revealed that after their conversation, Museveni instructed the University Council to engage the student leadership, something they had refused to do.
“In a few minutes, the student leadership will be engaging Council. Our demands are clear and we shall pronounce to the Students Body the outcome and way forward from the Engagement.”
Since last week, Makerere University students have been protesting against the 15 per cent tuition increment. They demand that it should be scrapped on grounds that it is unfair to privately sponsored students.
