The Kabale municipality Member of Parliament Andrew Aja Baryayanga has warned parents to bank school fees themselves, give bank slips to their children saying their children may use the money in gambling.
“Gambling companies are so many around town, and our children may be tempted to take school fees to those gambling places. I warn parents to be careful on this matter” Aja urged.
He was speaking on Sunday during a fundraising aimed at the completion of the construction of Rutoma Catholic Church in Kabale District.
According to Aja, students are lured into making quick money and they may risk staking their school fees.
In February this year while at a function at Rugarama cathedral in Kabale municipality, the state minister for finance and planning in the ministry of finance David Bahati said government was poised to ban sports betting in the country and other gambling activities.
According to Bahati, gambling was creating a mentality among the youth that one could get richer so soon without working hard which is not true.
According to The Uganda National Gaming Board statistics, the government of Uganda could reap Shs 50 billion from gambling activities in the 2019/20 financial year.
Aja also advised parents to consider accompanying their children to school warning them of kidnap cases that are on a rise in the country.
At the function, Shs21 million and 42 bags of cement were collected both in cash and pledges.
