A retired priest has been admitted to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital with life threatening wounds on his head and face after he was chopped up by his 23-year-old son.
The incident happened on Wednesday when Stephen Munvaneza was attacked by Bosco Arinda with a panga, according to Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police spokesperson.
Witnesses say Munvaneza was waiting for surveyors alongside friends at Murimba Primary School in Nyabigori Village, Katooma Parish, Kabale when an intoxicated Arinda attacked him.
He (Arinda) started insulting residents and asking why they wanted to buy his father’s land, a witness Balaam Musinguzi says.
Although his father tried to explain what was happening, Arinda did now want to hear of it, before pouncing and cutting his father on the head and neck.
He was however overpowered and arrested before he could inflict more damage on the old man.
The suspect, who is being held at Kabale Police Station, according to Maate faces charges of attempted murder once police investigations are complete under SD/74/21/08/2019.
