Uganda National Oil Company (UNOC) has appointed Ms Proscovia Nabbanja acting Chief Executive Officer following the resignation of founding CEO Dr Josephine Wapakabulo in May this year.
A tweet from UNOC on Monday said, “UNOC BOD unveils the Acting CEO – Ms. Proscovia Nabbanja; as Dr. Josephine Wapakabulo concludes her journey; Aug 13th. Proscovia – a Geologist with 19-years experience in the Oil & Gas industry is substantively the Chief Operating Officer – Upstream
@UNOC for the last 3 years.
Nabbanja who has gathered 17 years of experience in oil and gas industry, has risen from the bottom, through the ranks. She has worked as Principal Geologist in the Petroleum Exploration & Production Department under the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development, and headed the Technical Division which is at the forefront of reviewing of technical proposals especially field development plans and petroleum reservoir reports.
The new CEO holds BSc (Chemistry, Geology) from Makerere University, MSC Petroleum Geoscience- Imperial College of Science Technology and Medicine, DIC, Dip Petroleum Management and Operations, MBA-Imperial College Business School.
When her predecessor Dr Wapakabulo resigned, she stated in May 13, 2019 letter that she wants to focus on new opportunities and spend time with her family.
In the letter addressed to the UNOC Board chairman Emmanuel Katongole, Wapakabulo said she intended to leave office on 13 August 2019. And today, Nabbanja has been announced as her replacement pending confirmation.
UNOC is mandated among other things to handle the Uganda government’s commercial interests in the petroleum sector and to ensure that the resource is exploited in a sustainable manner.
