Police in Kabale have arrested Obadia Twinomuhwezi and Susan Katushabe, on allegations of faking own kidnap.
Twinomuhwezi, 25, is a news anchor attached to Peak FMwhile Katushabe, 22,an employee of National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) Kabale branch
The lovers are residents of Rwakaraba B cell in Northern division in Kabale Municipality.
Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police spokesperson says Katushabe was allegedly kidnapped in the evening of July 26, 2019 at around 8:00 pm by unknown assailants in a black saloon car in Kabale town who later started demanding for a ransom of 4.5 million shillings from her parents.
Maate says that the parents reported the matter to Rukiga police station, which together with that of Kabale started tracking the alleged kidnappers.
“Katushabe’s parents became suspicious about the kidnap of their daughter and rushed to police for help where after verification was discovered that its Katushabe who was negotiating the ransom,” Mr Maate noted.
He says on Sunday morning when police discovered that Katushabe was in Twinomuhwezi’s house in Rwakaraba B cell in Northern division Kabale Municipality.
“The two are currently detained at Kabale Central Police Station as investigations in the matter continue to establish the truth of the matter,” Maate confirmed.
This case has been registered at Rukiga police file number SD reference 06/27/07/19.
