Court has sentenced Micheal Okurutu, a Kenyan to two decades in prison for defiling a 13 year old girl.
According to prosecution, at 6pm on July 28, 2016 the victim set out to water vegetables in a garden near their home along Salaama Road.
Okurutu, then a neighbour, pounced on her and forcefully had sexual intercourse with her. He warned that he would kill her should she tell her mother who was at home.
This was the second time that he had accosted and defiled her, court heard.
When she arrived home, her mother noticed that she looked shaken and dirty. This prompted her to undress and checked her private parts where she found remains of semen.
While sentencing Okurutu on Friday, High Court judge Flavia Anglin Senoga said ‘there was a significant degree of premeditation of committing the offence considering that the victim was attacked several times whenever she was out on her own carrying out home errands.’
“This convict although he has no other criminal record and his a first time offender, has been on remand for three years which shall be deducted. He is sentenced to 20 years in jail,” ruled the judge.
Okurut has 14 days in which he can appeal.
