The German Embassy has donated two double cabin pick-ups, 10 motorcycles and four cameras to the Uganda Police Force.
While handing over the items to the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Maj Gen Sabiiti Muzeyi, the German ambassador to Uganda, His Excellency Dr Conze Albrecht said Uganda is good at community policing and the donation is aimed at enhancing it.
HE Albrecht also said the donation is one of Germany’s contribution towards a continuation of the longtime Uganda –German relationship.
“This cooperation is going to continue not only in material support but also in training and exposing the Uganda Police to modern ways of Police work especially in community policing,” he said.
On his part, Gen. Muzeyi thanked that German government for their continued support to the Police.
“This is an enormous support to the Uganda Police Force by your Government. It is an illustration of the strong relationship that exists between the two sister countries. It is also a demonstration of the fact that fighting crime, which has now taken a transnational dimension, is a responsibility of every country. Through His Excellency, we would like to thank your Government for the continued support,” he said.
Gen. Muzeyi added that the donation will not only help Police to fight crime within Uganda but also cross border crimes under regional continental and international policing arrangement.
“Your continued support in different investigation disciplines such as drug trafficking, terrorism and money laundering is highly appreciated,” he added.
The German government has severally continued supporting the Uganda Police in capacity building through training, transport and equipment provision.
Police have previously benefited from courses in the areas of Crime Scene Management, Forensic Photography, Fingerprints, Bomb Scene Management, Homicide Investigations, Narcotic Drug Investments and training of trainers courses.
