Authorities in Rubanda District on Friday rejected 90 goats from government’s Operation Wealth Creation-OWC program over poor quality.
The Boer cross and savanna cross types of goats were to be distributed to selected farmers from the sub counties of the District.
The District Veterinary Officer Dr Hanington Katumba said that they rejected goats from supplier Butsyoro Diary farm who had delivered them at the district head quarters, after finding that they had signs of diseases like nasal discharge, and fever.
The Rubanda District Operation Wealth Creation Coordinator, Major Innocent Ngabirano said that he and the District Veterinary Officer, with the District production office procured the good quality goats at the farm but they were shocked to see the supplier bringing the sub standard ones.
Maj Ngabirano added that the Operation Wealth Creation had procured the goats each at 300,000 shillings and all the 90 goats were procured at 27 million shillings. As per OWC guideline a female goat should be a year old and above whereas male goat should at least be a year and 3 Months old.
The Rubanda District Chief Administrative Officer Agrey Muramira said that the supplier should know that government set up an initiative with the purpose of improving the household of the local people. Muramira said that they will visit the farm again and procure goats at the farm before bringing them back.
