Local Council III Chairpersons in Buganda regions have started agitating for salary increment and government to provide them with cars like District chairpersons and Members of Parliament.
According to salary structures from Ministry of local government, Sub County Chairpersons are entitled to a monthly salary of Shs386,000 and motorcycles as means of transport.
Chairpersons from the districts of Mukono, Nakaseke, Mpigi, Ggomba, Butambala, Luwero, Mityana, Kyankwanzi, Kiboga, Mubende and Ssebambule convened at Kitenga Sub County Headquarters in Mubende district on Thursday where they resolved to set up a committee chaired by Ssenyimba Charles who represents them at Uganda Local Government Association Council (ULGA), to petition the ministry over the issues and also organize for a meeting with the President.
Mubende district governor Francis Kibuuka Amooti emphasized the need for a salary review as the district chairperson had earlier proposed through ULGA, saying these are the foot soldiers to government programs.
He said the trends have changed, sub county chairpersons should get vehicles, though he said currently the ministry is in advanced stages to procure the motorcycles whose biding and payment was finished by close of last financial year.
Nyakwera Baguma Amooti the Mubende Resident District Commissioner asked the leaders to ensure peace and security in their respective sub counties, as government works on their petition.
The RDC said she is optimistic that government can have all these done once the resources are available.
