Security at Kigezi High school and Nyabikoni Secondary School is still very tight; days after the two schools’ strike that claimed a life of one of the students. Both are found in Kabale municipality.
Last Sunday at around 9 pm, students of Kigezi High school attacked fellow colleagues of Nyabikoni Secondary School which led to a fight which led to the death of Rogers Bakashaba, a Senior Five student at the former.
28 students of Kigezi High school and one from Nyabikoni Secondary School were later arrested for questioning as inquiries to establish the cause of the attack were underway. They were however released days later.
Security was deployed at both schools after a security meeting last week that was chaired by the Kabale Resident District Commissioner Darius Nandinda. It was discovered that Kigezi High School students were drafting a plan to have a revenge attack against Nyabikoni Secondary School.
Sabiiti Kenneth Baabo, the Kabale District Education officer while speaking to head teachers on Friday at Rukiiko hall in Kabale town urged then to share ideas on how to reduce inter-school conflicts in the district.
According to Sabiiti, most head teachers were leading schools that had long famous history of no strikes yet other schools were striking on the daily basis.
