Rubaga South Legislator, Kato Lubwama has hit back at social media trolls over an increment on Members of Parliament allowances.
Last week, MPs increased their allowance by 39 per cent and that of Parliament staff by 15 percent, claiming that the cost of living is too high.
Concerned Ugandans then took to social media to question how the MPs managed to increase their allowances, when previously they said that there is no money to increase on teachers’ salaries.
But Lubwama distanced himself from being among the MPs who requested for this allowance increment, though he feels good that fellow MPs did.
“As Kato Lubwama I have never refused money. But as always, once some MPs come up asking for such, we all carry the blame since such money is paid to all MPs. As a person who was born and bred in Kampala, I would be a fool to reject money …Money have never killed anyone in my clan” he said on Sunday, adding that he never requests for any increments but ‘idle money’ always finds its way to his account.
“I call it idle money because I never request or ask for it but it somehow ends up on my account. If it was not idle, what would it be doing on my account?”
