Maj Gen (rtd) Mugisha Muntu on Wednesday launched his new political party- Alliance for National Transformation (ANT).
The colourful event that took place at Serena Hotel in Kampala was graced by the country’s opposition bigwigs such as Kyadondo East Member of Parliament Robert Kyagulanyi famously known as Bobi Wine, Democratic Party (DP) President Norbert Mao, former presidential candidate Abed Bwanika, Kasese District Woman also former Leader of Opposition MP Winnie Kiiza among others.
The party unveiled its official logo and colours which will include: purple, orange, red and white.
In his speech, the former Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) president said they will not seek to have a one man show and that no single individual will be bigger than the collective since they want to build a political party that outlives them.
“Power must be invested in institutions not individuals. We will do a lot to ensure that the executive power is reduced. Judiciary power must be increased and people must be empowered and we will make sure that this is not a one man show,” said Muntu.
Who is who?
Muntu has been unveiled as the National Coordinator who will lead the party to the National Delegates Conference. He will be deputized by Makerere University don Nyanja Musoke as the National Deputy Coordinator-Operations.
The former FDC Vice President Eastern Region Alice Alaso is the coordinator-Finance and Administration whereas Martin Okumu will serve as the Coordinator for Research and Policy.
The party also appointed Christine Abia as the National Treasurer deputized by Ismail Badoge.
Wilberforce Seryazi is the Party Spokesperson and he will be deputized by Sulaiman Kakaire.
A team of elders has also been put up with Yokasi Bikande, Dan Wandera Ogalo and Dr. Muniini Munera, a former FDC coordinator for Diaspora.
The party’s coordinator for International Diaspora Affairs is Barbra Allimadi and Florence Ibi Ekwau will be Coordinator for Parliament Group.
A number of regional coordinators have also been appointed who include; Sewava Serubiri for Central Region, Jackson Wabyona for Western Region, Hannington Basakana for Eastern Region and Phoebe Ochan for Northern region.
The party’s interim youth wing shall be headed by Abubakar Makanga while the Women’s League shall be headed by Ambassador Edith Grace Sempala.
Former Makerere University Guild President David Bala will serve as coordinator for Education and Institutions, Dan Mugarura Bakaaki for Election Management, Martin Okumu for Research and Policy, Siraj Nsanja for Workers, Prossy Naikoba for Civil Society while Yunis Okullu, will coordinate Religious Affairs within the party.
The party has also appointed sub regional coordinators for Bukedi, Rwenzori, Buganda West, Sebei, Luwero, Ankole, Lango, Teso, Kigezi, Buganda East, Bugisu, Toro, Busoga, Acholi, Central Buganda, West Nile and Karamoja.
