On Thursday, Ugandans were treated to news that Joseph Mayanja alias Jose Chameleone had handed over a brand new bus to Uganda Premier League side Wakiso Giants Football Club.
Mr Mayanja intends to contest for the post of Kampala Lord Mayor in the next elections.
At the function, attended by the ‘who is who’ of local football, CMr Mayanja told whoever cared to listen that he managed to lobby for the bus by talking to some random guy he met on a flight to Phoenix.
“On my way to Phoenix, I sat next to one kind man. We chatted and he took me though an adventure of his business. I also shared mine my music experience. We later shared contacts and promised to reach out each other again,” the Leone Island boss said.
He added that he then, coincidentally met the same fella in Oregon, USA about 23 hours later and that is when he talked about his undying love for football and Wakiso Giants FC.
“He picked a lot of interest and asked me what best he can contribute to us. He mentioned that he had a bus company and asked whether giving a club populalry known as the Purple Sharks one, would make a change. I was so happy and together with the team’s administration accepted.”
Anyways, it was all a hoax, according to the latest news reaching our desk.
We now understand that the bus, which has been in the country for about six months now, was bought by the CEO of a Top Bet-ting firm in the country.
The gentleman, who has always maintained a low profile, despite the billions of shillings on his account, did not even show up at the unveiling of the bus, allegedly solicited for by Chameleon.
“Which Chameleon can think about others before himself?” the source privy to the dealings of Wakiso Giants asked.
“For a person paid to even attend Wakiso Giants’ games, it would be a miracle that he would lobby for a Shs500m bus. Never.”
An ardent football fan, Chameleone has been a regular at most of Wakiso Giants’ home games. The singer who was raised in Kawempe however has his official home in Seguku in Wakiso district.
