Kyadondo East legislator Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine has been granted a Shs1 million cash bail by Buganda Road Court magistrate Esther Nahirya.
The legislator was remanded to Luzira Prison on Monday for holding unlawful protest against Over the Top Tax in 2018.
In her ruling, Nahirya said she found all of Kyagulanyi’s sureties substantial, contrary to the claims by the state that one of them, former ethics Minister Miria Matembe, was too old at 64 years, to compel the legislator to respect court orders.
Patrick Nsamba and legislator Gaffa Mbwatekamwa were Kyagulanyi’s other sureties.
Earlier, Kyagulanyi who will reappear in court on May 23, said that ‘if being in prison will earn him freedom, he will thank God, and that if standing for the truth will keep him in the prison, he will thank God louder and nothing will stop him’.
He also alleged that he still had a lot of things to do in Luzira prison, and wasn’t worried if court had denied him bail.
“I thank you for the opportunity to speak under these abnormal circumstances. Whatever you decide in that court your honor; that is not my business. My business is standing for the truth, my business is standing for what is morally right,” Kyagulanyi stated amidst chants of ‘People Power, Our Power’.
