Maj. Gen. Timothy Mutebile Sabiiti, the commander of the Engineering Brigade in the Uganda Peoples Defence Forces (UPDF) and his worship Sentaro Byamugisha Emmanuel, the mayor, Kabale municipality on Monday afternoon threw Kabale journalists out of a workshop at Little Ritz gardens. Our own reporter, including others from Red Pepper, Voice of Kigezi fm, Peak fm, Freedom radio and Rubanda fm were all ordered to leave the ‘Development Workshop’.
The one day workshop as per the radio announcement that was aired on Voice of Kigezi was meant for the chairpersons of LC 1 and LC 2 of Kabale municipality that was intended to discuss how to spark development in the municipality.
It was on this note that the journalists chose to attend the worship even though they weren’t invited.
According to Emmanuel Sentaro Byamugisha, the main organizer of the event, Gen. Mutebile didn’t want the media to attend.
Maj. Gen Sabiiti Mutebile, speaking to the press after closing the workshop said that he was advising local council leaders to be agents of development in Kabale municipality.
However, the General later said he is poised to retire from the army in the coming months but he wished to join politics, contesting for Member of Parliament representing Kabale municipality in 2021.
In March this year, Gen. Mutebile organized a party at Little Ritz gardens upon being promoted to the rank of Major General where he openly said he wished to unseat Hon. Andrew Aja from Parliament. Aja is the current Member of Parliament for Kabale municipality on Independent ticket.
One of the councilors who preferred anonymity said the meeting was never developmental but intended to lure local council chairpersons to gather support for the Major general in the 2021 elections.
