Security was heightened and roads closed in Mbarara, South Western Uganda, as the groom’s entourage and that of the bride snaked in at the venue to celebrate a traditional wedding ceremony between President Museveni’s niece Rosette Barunga and Betin Kenya regional director William Mugambi, according standard.co.ke.
President Museveni, who was represented by his son, did not disappoint as he showered Mugambi with gifts worth over Sh10 million after a successful traditional wedding ceremony.
In his speech delivered by Lt. Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Museveni wished the couple success as they build a strong family foundation.
“You are in our prayers and we know you will build a successful family and future because the foundation that you are from has shown us what you can be,” he said.
Museveni emphasised that Uganda is a country that accepts people from different cultures and different countries, living together in peace and harmony.
“This is our desire. This is what we want to see – people accepting and living together in the spirit of mutual respect,” he added.
Michael Nuwagira, Museveni’s younger brother said Uganda had nurtured different cultures and supports intermarriages within and without its borders.
“This is our desire and this is what we want to see that our people can come together and live in harmony despite sharing different social backgrounds,” Nuwagira said.
Mugambi on his part said he met his beautiful wife Rosette in London almost 20 years ago.
“I was in London where I worked there while she had just finished her studies. We went on to live in the United Kingdom and currently, we are blessed with three beautiful daughters. She is my best friend and I wish her good health with God’s blessings,” the groom added.
The wedding was attended by Ambassadors, Members of Parliament, Ministers and senior officials from the Ugandan Government.
