A Seven-year-pupil at St Mathias Nursery and Primary School in Bukuya Town Council has been knocked dead in Bukuya Town, Mubende district. Irene Namatovu was on her was to school on Friday morning when Canter Registration number UAZ 748A heading to Lubaali township knocked her dead.
The accident has been attributed to over speeding.
Norbert Ochom, the Wamala region police spokesperson has confirmed the incident saying the car has been towed to Bukuya Police and the body handed over to the relatives for a descent burial after the postmortem has been done.
The Mayor Bukuya Town Council Hajj Suleiman Tanula, said accidents are turning into a daily accuracy in Bukuya, asking UNRA to install humps on the roads to Bukuya Town.
According to Steven Kasiima, the director of Traffic Police, more than 3,000 people were killed and another 10,000 picked injuries of varying degrees in 13,244 road accidents in 2017.
Nearly half of the dead were pedestrians and 918 were motorcyclists, meaning less than 1,000 died in car crashes, the 2017 annual Traffic and Road Safety report stated.
