Police in Kisoro is hunting for Bufumbira North Member of Parliament John Nizeyimana Kamara for assisting a murder suspect escape from Police custody.
It is alleged that Kamara on Wednesday stormed a Police Post in Nyabwishenya sub-county together with his guards and forcefully freed John Sebagyenzi, a prime suspect in the murder of Jack Serwumwe,59.
Sebagyenzi, a campaign agent for the legislator was arrested after his phone was recovered at the crime scene.
According to Kigezi Regional Police Spokesperson Elly Maate, Serwumwe, a resident of Suma village in Nyabwishenya sub county was murdered on Tuesday night;his head cut off and taken by the murderers.
“When we recovered a phone near the deceased body which the residents confirmed that it belonged to John Sebagyenzi, we picked him from his home as a prime suspect and detained him at Nyabwishenya Police Post”, Maate revealed.
“Area MP Hon John Kamara together with his guards stormed the Police Post and whisked him off to unknown place.”
Maate further stated that they are currently hunting for Kamara and the murder supect. The case is registered under file number CRB 288/2019.
“Hon Kamara will be charged with interfering with police work and aiding the suspect to flee.”
However, when contacted, the Parliamentarian denied helping the suspect from escaping from custody.
