Bright Byamugisha, the former Uganda National Teachers’ Union (UNATU) Chairperson Kabale Branch been ordered to repay Shs2 million which he embezzled during his time in office.
According to UNATU General Secretary Filbert Bates Baguma, the union recently sat and resolved that he should refund the misused funds before the end of May 2019.
Byamugisha was last month forced to resign during special Branch Delegates and Executive meeting that was chaired by UNATU Discipline Committee Chairperson Francis Ochenga at Kabale Secondary School in Kabale Municipality. He was accused of abuse of office.
During the meeting, it was alleged that Byamugisha withdrew over Shs2 million from the UNATU bank account in dfcu bank Kabale Branch without the knowledge of the union treasurer and other senior members.
Addressing the delegates, Ochenga said Byamugisha had showed a bad example thus appealing to members to always the spirit of transparency and accountability.
When given platform, the culprit admitted all the mistakes in writing and asked for forgiveness.
