State Minister for Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Aidah Nantaba during weekend allegedly survived an assassination attempt.
The Minister was on Sunday afternoon on her way from Kayunga to Kampala when suspected gunmen riding on a motorbike trailed her for over 40kms.
Nantaba who was on alert quickly sped off before reporting the matter to Naggalama Police Station.
Police in response, launched an operation and intercepted one of the suspects by name of Ronald Ssebulime in Nagojje Sub County, Mukono thus putting him out of action.
According to eyewitnesses, Ssebulime who was pleading to be innocent, was first arrested, handcuffed and a few minutes later he was shot dead by police officers.
However, in a new development, the deceased’s family members have claimed that he was heading to St Andrews Secondary School Kabimbiri, Kayunga District for the Visitation Day of his two children-in senior one and Senior three.
Speaking to a local TV station on Monday, Ssebulime’s sister Irene Nakazibwe said, “I had also gone to visit his two daughters and he was supposed to join us later but we kept on calling his phone, he was not picking, the girls got angry and by the time we left the school he was nowhere to be seen. By around 5pm we had reached in Gayaza when we learnt that Ronnie had been gunned down.”
Nakazibwe also revealed that her brother was working as a wielder and that he was a devoted single parent of four having lost his wife in 2012.
On Monday morning, Ssebulime’s home in Nakabugo Village, Bulaga along Mityana Road was thoroughly searched by security operatives in the presence of the sister but nothing harmful was discovered.
Staff at St Andrews Secondary School who preferred anonymity also confirmed that they knew Ssebulime and his motorbike and that they were expecting him on the Visitation Day.
One of his friend said he was shocked because he had known the deceased for a long time but he had never heard anything suspicious about him.
