Rubanda West Member of Parliament, Denis Sabiiti has advised the electorate in Kabale District to ‘kick out liars’ from Parliament.
In a direct reference to Ndorwa West legislator David Bahati, Sabiiti at the weekend said he has never apologised for not voting to amend Article 102b of the Uganda Constitution a year ago.
Sabiiti is among the 23 NRM party members who didn’t vote in favor of the Constitutional Age Limit Amendment but was invited by the party to a retreat at the National Leadership Institute, Kyankwanzi.
The Kyankwanzi retreat resolved, among many resolutions to front President Kaguta Museveni as a sole candidate to represent the NRM party in the 2021 general elections despite little opposition from a few members.
According to Bahati, by Sabiiti accepting the invitation to Kyankwanzi, and himself voting for Museveni to become sole candidate, it means he was wrong to vote against the age limit bill.
While speaking at a fundraising function at Rubanda Technical Institute in Ikumba Sub County, Rubanda West Constituency in Rubanda District at the weekend, Bahati said Sabiiti had also apologised for not supporting the amendment. The apology was reportedly issued on the sidelines of the retreat in Kyankwanzi.
“Although Sabiiti has apologized before the President and other NRM members of parliament, he had made a very wrong decision,” Bahati said.
However, Sabiiti told the press after the function that he would never make an apology, or even regret voting against the Constitutional amendment.
“I will never apologize for voting against the removal of the age limit and I didn’t do anything wrong in that regard. I represented my people’s views, people who never wanted the said article amended,” Sabiiti said before criticizing the minister, saying he lied when he said the 23 had apologised in Kyankwanzi.
“These liars should be kicked out of Parliament. We should seek and vote only truthful people,” Sabiiti said.
About Shs27 million was raised for the construction of the institution structures.
