Ashiraf Chelengat, 29 a Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) officer early this week got out of control and shoot three people in Kapchorwa town.
Chelengat who is currently being held at Kapchorwa Police Station belongs to the army third division based in Nakapiripirit District.
The Sipi regional Police spokesperson Rogers Taitika told a local daily that the suspect attacked Kapchemweny supermarket in the town and shot three people under unclear circumstances.
The injured include Benjamin Serioni, a supermarket attendant, who was shot in the arm, Rajab Midada Rajib, a businessman and a resident of Iganga District, who was shot on the left shoulder, and Robert Nalonzo, a resident of Kapcohorwa Town who was shot in the throat.
The victims are receiving treatment at Kapchorwa hospital.
Taitika said the suspect will be charged with two counts of robbery and attempted murder.
“We are working on the case file, so that he can be produced before courts of law,” he said, adding that the preliminary investigations indicate the suspect demanded money from the supermarket and when they refused, he opened fire.
