The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Parliamentary Caucus has unanimously supported the Central Executive Committee (CEC) resolution on sole candidature.
Last month, CEC members had a five-day retreat at Chobe Safari Lodge in Nwoya District and agreed that their party chairman, President Yoweri Museveni is flag bearer in the 2021 general elections.
Although some members from the party did not agree with this decision, over the weekend, NRM Members of Parliament at Kyankwanzi retreat also endorsed Museveni’s sole candidature.
The motion was taken shortly after the presentation by the Party Secretary General Justine Kasule Lumumba on the topic ‘Towards 2021: Milestones & Strategies for the NRM Party’.
While in her presentation, Lumumba also read out to the resolutions of Chobe retreat. Among the resolutions was the agreement on Museveni’s sole candidature and conducting all party primaries including that of MPs by lining up.
As soon as Lumumba completed her submission, Hellen Asomo a representative of Persons With Disabilities in Eastern Regions came up with the motion supporting the sole candidature resolution.
“Uganda needs President Museveni now more than ever before for his firm guidance and mentorship of the Party Membership, so I move this motion,” she said.
Her position was unanimously seconded before the legislators took a break.
